Originally built in the 1950’s as a primary school, the program for this project was to both enlarge the facility and to convert it into a junior high school. The design of the original buildings was based on single-story residential models. However, the new gymnasium was patterned after the typical industrial warehouses in the area. The intent of this marriage of these two different building types was to explore the theoretical dialogue of building forms already present in the town in such a way so as to not alter the magnificent views of the surrounding hillside.
