This project was an expansion to an existing cemetery utilizing two distinct approaches. One part, square-shaped, and reminiscent of the existing cemetery in its basic geometry was built around an old oak tree to form an exterior ‘room of the death’. The second part was designed as a series of semicircles in order to represent a more flexible, dynamic form in contrast to the static shape of the old cemetery. In this portion, the tombs focus on a chapel (the religious and spiritual center of the cemetery) while at the same time remain oriented toward the external (the presence of human life).
